Achievements

It all began with 7. A at the school in Sønderholm in 2007 choose the optional course in FLL (FIRST LEGO League). At our first tournament, the local competition, which was held in Århus, we won the Innovation Award, the Show Award and the Champion’s Award (the award that determine whether you go on to the next tournament). There were about 20 teams that participated.

At our next tournament, the Scandinavian competition, which was held in Herning, we won the Construction Award, and were nominated to the Innovation Award, the Programming Award (best programming of the robot) and the Champion’s Award. About 40 teams were signed up to this competition.

At this competition there were more ways to proceed: 1. Win the Champion’s Award (you qualify for the World Championship in Tokyo). 2. Win the first place in the robot performance. (You qualify for the World Championship in Tokyo). 3. Win the second place in the robot performance. (You qualify for the conference in Atlanta).

The team that won the Champion’s Award also won the first place in the robot performance. Thereby they had two tickets to the World Championship. Consequently we received one of the tickets, as we were the second best. The result was that we were invited to the World Championship in Tokyo.

At the World Championship we did very well, and we became no 5 at the robot performance. About 60 teams signed up to this competition.

We would like to thank our sponsors for making this journey possible by there support. Thank you!

Now we are working on the second year. This year we are divided between more schools, so we run it as a spare time project without support from the school. It has not been easy to find time for the project and at the same time take care of our school, homework and other hobbies. But we keep up with motivation and our high goals, which is yet another seat at the World Championship.

The 8th November 2008 we participated in the Climate Connection tournament in Herning. At the preliminary competition 670 teams from the whole Scandinavia participated. At our amazement we did so well that we won the Insight Award, the Robot Performance Award, Robot Design Award and the most desired in FIRST LEGO League, the Champion’s Award.

In the weekend 29th November 2008 we were in Kongsberg in Norway to participate in the Scandinavian finals. Here the 36 winders from the preliminary competitions should fight for the Scandinavian Championship. We found out that the competition here were much tougher. There were lots of teams that were very good at the field (table where the robots are racing). We could sense that it was the same with the theory and technical presentations.

We fought the whole day getting our robot to work properly on the field. The lighting conditions were much different than they use to be, so our light sensors were teasing us. But we qualified to the final. Hectic activities were reflecting the whole day and everyone were fighting the best they had leaned. Luckily we had most of the old class with us. They cheered the best they could and that was a great support.

There was a breathless excitement as we came to the award giving. Only the judges have the overview of the team’s performance. When it all was over we had gathered the Champion’s Award, the Project Award and the Inventor Award. We became no 7 in the Robot Performance and we were nominated to the Robot Design Award and the Programming Award. The Champion’s Award is our ticked to the "World championship", FLLOEC, which is conducted in May, so maybe you will hear more from Dauerkraft in the future.
